When Free Means Higher Earnings

Most online business owners are always searching for ways to increase revenue. What if I told you that the best way to increase revenues is to give something away? Well, that is exactly what I’m about to explain to you. You know as well as I do that humans love getting free things. There are many reasons for this, it makes people feel special, even proud, when they get things that are free, especially something very valuable. That’s why you should give away free reports to potential and future clients and customers.

Free reports are very valuable demonstrations of the quality of your products and services, especially if you point out how much the free report would cost if you sold it. Once you give it away, if you allow the receiver to share it, and it really is well written and well put together, it can become viral — this makes that one free report simply priceless to you in terms of how many potential connections you can make from one free report. You honestly cannot ask for a better form of marketing than a free report. But, there are some caveats to this.

The Report Must Be:

High Quality — Don’t skimp on this just because you plan to give it away free. People who receive it will see it as an example of your integrity, work ethic, and value. This product should be as good as, or better than your typical work.

Highly Targeted — Know who your audience is and who you want to speak to. If you just send out a general report, you won’t get as many sign ups and it won’t mean anything to them. Be very specific about who you are creating the report for.

Useful — Knowing who your target audience is, and what they need from you will go far in making sure that your free report is useful to the recipient. If the product is not useful, they’re not going to pass it on, and they’re not going to remember you.

Reciprocal — Get something from them for the free report such as an email address so that you can market to them later via that medium.

Rebrandable — Okay this isn’t a must, but it’s nice, because it incentivizes the next must. Allowing people who download the book to rebrand the book, infusing it with their own affiliate links will increase the times it is shared exponentially.

Easy to Share — Not only should the report be easy to share, find a way to reward them for sharing. Creating an easy form that allows them to share the report from your site directly will enable you to reward the people who share it.

Lastly, you must be ready for the resulting traffic that comes from your free viral report. It would be shameful to give out a free report that you worked hard on creating and putting together professionally if you’re not ready for the onslaught of new traffic to your website and newsletter sign ups. So, in addition to preparing a report that is high quality, targeted, useful, reciprocal, and easy to share, you must also make your website inviting and ready for the new traffic with great offers.
