Whether you’re trying to write an eBook, a report or just content for your blog, it’s easy to get distracted and find other things to do. But remember, the quicker you can get through the writing, the quicker your product will be finished! Here are my top five tips for doing just that.

1) Set A Timer

Something that really helps me, whether I’m in the middle of writing an eBook or not, is to set a timer. This means literally setting an alarm to go off in 15 minutes time, 30 minutes, an hour… whatever, and just write until then. It’s a great way to focus. You can use a cooking timer or a simple alarm if you want, though there’s also software available to help.

2) Take Days Off

You’re going to need days off from writing. In theory we can all plan to work on a task each and every day for a month, but in reality we’re going to find ourselves resenting that task. This will differ from person to person. For example, if you’ve set a 7 day challenge to finish your eBook then you probably will want to write everyday. But if not, then taking e.g. the weekends off is a good idea.

3) Don’t Beat Yourself Up

This is probably going to be the hardest advice to follow out of everything I’ve said! But I understand what it’s like to beat yourself up when you’re not getting any words written. I did it for a few days and it got me nowhere. Some days you might have to admit defeat and vow to make it up in the following days. Sometimes a day off is what you need to clear your mental block.

4) Think About Your Goals

I recommend that you always think about your goals as you are writing. When I imagined accomplishing my challenge of writing 50,000 words in 30 days I imagined how happy and proud I would be when I finished. That helped to keep me going – that and the fact I had told a lot of people I was doing the challenge to keep me accountable!

Some days I let myself get a bit negative. Instead of thinking ‘I’m over half way through’ I’d start thinking ‘I’ve got almost half still left to write’. We’ll all have moments like that, but try to put a positive spin when you find your mind wandering into dark places!

5) Find Your Natural Rhythm

Very soon into writing my first eBook I realized I did a lot better when I wrote in the mornings. Why? Because by lunch I could forget about the annoying task of completing my challenge and just get on with whatever else needed doing. Find a time that works for you and stick to it.

Bonus Tip: Reward Yourself

Lastly, I recommend rewarding yourself when you meet certain goals. You could have a nice snack, a special lunch, go out somewhere, Tweet for a while… whatever, just something that makes the pain worthwhile!

When you’re getting started with blogging, sometimes it can be difficult to come up with enough topics to write about.

This can be a form of writers block that prevents you from even deciding on a topic to write about.

However, if you know the right places to look, you will discover that the topics you can write about really are unlimited.

The first thing you should do is start a list.

Anytime you come up with an idea for a future post, write it down somewhere.

You should even keep a paper and pencil next to your bed because sometimes the best ideas happen late at night or when you first wake up.

You may think that you will be able to remember your great idea, but it usually doesn’t happen that way – write it down.

You should also keep this list visible as a constant reminder that you’re looking for possible topics.

Once you get into a habit of keeping track of your ideas, your list will eventually become large enough so you have multiple topics to pick from.

Visiting several websites that are related to your topic is another way to come up with ideas for your blog.

An easy way to do this is to subscribe to an RSS feed or set your home page to show the latest headlines from these websites.

Once a week, scan the headlines and look for ideas to add to your list.

Sometimes it will be helpful to also keep track of the url for the article you saw to use as a reference when you start writing your blog post.

Looking at forums and communities related to your niche is another place to look for ideas.

Find out what everyone else is talking about.

Better yet, find out what they are asking questions about, then you can answer those questions in a blog post.

Almost everyone who installs their own WordPress theme will want to customize the header. How you do this depends on the theme in question.

For most themes, you can use an FTP manager like Filezilla and then go in and replace the current header image on the theme. Again this will vary by theme so the best way to determine how to change your header is to find out if there are any support files with your theme and read them.

The best thing about buying premium themes is that they almost always come with user support as well as forums and files to make installation and customization easy for you.

Other items to customize:

Sidebar - Many people want to remove the ‘Meta’ information that is added to WordPress by default. You may also want to add an email opt-in and RSS Feed info to your sidebar. The easiest way to make changes to the sidebars is to find themes that are ‘widget’ ready. Widget ready themes allow you to easily add and remove widgets to your theme without knowing any special or custom coding. You simply click on the widget selection under ‘Appearance’ in the left menu of your WordPress software.

Background Color - If you know some HTML the background color is fairly easy to edit. In WordPress find your Stylesheet and the background color coding is usually very close to the top of the stylesheet. Again, this is made much easier if you choose a WordPress theme with different color options. There are many themes out there that now offer various color options. This would mean that you don’t need to make any coding changes yourself. Woo Themes is a great choice if you are looking for themes with different colors.

Footer - You’ll want to add your copyright to the footer of any blog or website you create with WordPress. You can also go to the CopyScape website and grab a graphic that shows your site is protected by copyright. To edit the footer you will need to go into your themes source files. These are found under the Appearance section but this time you will need to click ‘Editor’. Adding company information as well as privacy policy links in the footer section is a good idea also.

When choosing a theme look at what options are available. This will make doing the customization much easier when you come to it.

When You Want To Learn WordPress

WordPress is the website building tool of choice for many business owners these days. It’s a great option. No software needed on your computer, great functionality and flexibility – and you can update your site content from any computer, netbook or smart phone. It’s no wonder that it’s become so popular.

3. Finally, it wears a Theme, a set of template files, that determines how the content is displayed online.

Entering content is easy. The database takes care of itself. Customization, want to alter your design and manipulate the database for special needs, you have to tap a whole other area of knowledge and that’s where many get stuck.

There’s good news and bad news for those who want to learn more about managing their WordPress site. The good news is that there’s a huge resource of documents and a large community of developers and users who are willing to answer your questions. The trouble for newcomers is usually that they don’t know how to ask the right questions to produce the answers they really need. The documents and forums seem to be written in a foreign language and newbie questions are often answered with links to more foreign explanations that just add to their feelings of overwhelm.

My advice? Don’t give up. Keep asking questions. To get the best answers, provide as much information about your problem as you can. If you’re persistent, you’ll find that things come easier over time.

The hardest part about blogging to me is to come up with good, relevant content on a regular basis. A blog only works when you update it several times per week. Unfortunately we don’t always have the time to sit down and write those posts with everything else we’re doing to grow our affiliate sites.

One thing I’ve found extremely helpful is to recycle parts of articles I’ve written into blog posts. Let’s take a look at the process of doing just that.

Reusing Parts Of Articles As Blog Posts

Star with an article you’ve already written. Take one point or tip from it. Copy and paste that section into your blogging software as a new post. You know have a good starting point to work from. You have your topic, your main idea and probably about 100 words or so of content already written.

Editing The Content To Make It Work

The next step is to edit it a bit. Write a compelling title for your post. Introduce your reader to the concept you’re going to share, then transition into the content that’s already there.

A Few Tips For Formatting And Monetizing

Last but not least, it’s a good idea to do a bit of formatting on your blog post. Adding an image will help, as will breaking the content into small paragraphs that are easy to read.

If needed include some sub headings and break up content with a list, some bolding etc.

Before you hit publish, think about what you are trying to accomplish with this blog post. Is it to make your blog more interactive? Then ask your readers to comment at the end of the post.

Do you want to build your list? Send them to a closely related optin page and offer a bonus report if they sign up for your list.

Is there an affiliate product you could promote? Recommend it within your blog post and again at the end of your post. I like to do this in a P.S. Point out the main benefit, mention the money back guarantee or remind your readers if there is some sort of element of scarcity (i.e. only 200 will be sold, price goes up on Tuesday etc.).

Once all the formatting is done, just push the publish button and you’re done.

Now do the same with each of the remaining points or tips from your article and schedule your blog posts to go out in the coming days. Rinse and repeat with other articles.

For most bloggers, getting traffic is hard task because it’s very time consuming and traffic just seems to trickle through.


You can always buy traffic for your blog with PPC or a banner ad or pay for numerous backlinks, but not all bloggers have that kind of money to spend on blog promotion.


Luckily, there is are easy ways to get free traffic to your blog if you’re a kind of lazy marketer.
Here are some ideas you that you can start using today.


1. Add share buttons to your blog under each post. People love to share things on Twitter and Facebook these days so make it easy to share your content by placing buttons on your blog.


2. Write shorter posts. You don’t always have to write a long articles that makes you tired and never want to look at your blog again. Short posts are ok as long as they contain good content. Search engines love blogs which get fresh content added regularly, so with short posts, you can post more often. And when I say short, between 200 and 300 words.


3. Run a competition on your blog. Give away something if your readers share your blog or add your blog to their website. The work on your part is minimal but can result in massive results. Just make sure it’s a win-win situation so give away something good.


4. Use plugins such as CommentLuv to reward commentors. If your commentor can get a free link to his/her site, they are more likely to post their comment. And more comments mean more traffic and a better reader base.


5. Submit your blog posts to social bookmarking sites and ping them. This is not real fun so you probably would want to outsource this on Fiverr.com or something. Social bookmarkings give you backlinks and traffic so don’t forget about them.


Each one of these techniques can be done easily and quickly, but if you’re really lazy there are some systems which makes all this happen hands-free. Anyway, use these easy tips and you’ll see a nice increase in blog traffic.

Think about this. Who is the average American more likely to believe and trust?

1. Someone who has 3% body fat and looks like they spend all day at the gym and have natural genetics for general awesomeness?

or…

2. Someone who has a before picture where they weighed 400 lbs and an after picture weighing in at a healthy 170?

I would want to know how the second person pulled it off. Don’t you?! Not only that, but if the blog was believable, I’d probably tell my friends, post on Facebook about it, and buy everything they offered about how I can lose weight, too!

So what does this mean? Simple. People search online for solutions to their problems. A BIG problem for people is their overall weight and lack of exercise. So, if you set up a blog, you can not only help those people but … and this is the best part … hold yourself accountable to lose weight, too.

Your first blog post can be as simple as this:

“My name is Sally and I have a confession to make. I need to lose about 80 lbs. How’d I gain it all? Well, it snuck up on me one potato chips at a time, but I’m determined to lose it because (insert your reason why here). I’d like to use this blog as a diary to show you how I do it. I’ll share the ups and downs along the way. Share anything that works really well. And, the fads that I try that don’t. So you can avoid them! Please come back often to see how I’m doing. I’d love to cheer you on, too. So please comment and let me know how much weight you need to lose so we can do it together.”

You can do that. It’s as simple as writing an email.

The only trick is in getting started. That’s where I come in.

I don’t know about you, but the bloggers I talk with, have one thing in common – they’re all saying out loud how HARD it feels like to make money online. And I’m talking about bloggers from all walks of life, in all kinds of niches and industries; beginners and pros alike.

Remember how easy it was back in the days when you could slap a banner on a free site and make one or two sales; today you can’t approach blogging the same way like 5, 6 or 7 years ago! You need to have a vision and plan a strategy because people are now more reluctant to buy online than ever.

Perhaps you don’t understand the concept of TRUST. Let me explain it to you. It is quite simple – people buy on trust. They buy from other people [and usually not from companies] that they like, know and trust. And because today’s niches get crowded rapidly, competition grows fast too; although the demand for your knowledge, skill and information might be high, the competition is getting fiercer!

And the problem is this – you can’t expect to make money fast anymore. Your blog visitors have the option to compare your blog and your product and whatever you recommend them to purchase or download, within seconds, with just one mouse click, by Google, Twitter and other related sites.

So what is the solution? If you believe that there’s at least one solution to any problem you might encounter, then I’m glad we think alike and can’t imagine how excited I get because we are on the same path here.

OK. The solution is simple. Start building trust with your blog visitors. You can do it via RSS, but there’s a major drawback. A big challenge. Trust takes time. You don’t build friendships in a week. You don’t talk with your best friends via email only. You phone call her, you meet face to face, and so on.

The situation is very similar to blogging and to the method you should adopt in your venture. RSS is good. But it does NOT help with list building. The key here is you can’t afford to underestimate the concept of “list building” or neglecting it completely. List building is not just creating a list of subscribers. The big picture includes sending follow-up emails and stand alone broadcast messages, such as discount promo emails and special offers, etc.

Ask all the pro bloggers in your niche. The majority, the ones with the highest respect, authority and experience, are using email list building in combination with RSS feed subscriptions. They have seen tremendous potential in this strategy and made it an habit in their projects.

Membership Software: Beginners Make the Right Choice

Membership sites can be a great source of recurring income. Unfortunately, some of the membership software it takes to run these sites can be quite expensive or complicated or both. As such choosing membership software can be daunting and may scare off the beginner. Consequently, I wrote this article to help you make an informed decision.

The big question: Do I want to invest a little or a bunch in my membership software?

There are alternatives ranging anywhere from thousands of dollars to essentially free. On the upper end of the range is a membership software company called MemberGate. This is definitely the Rolls-Royce of the industry with lots of bells and whistles. Problem is – it is cost prohibitive for most beginners with packages ranging from nearly $4,000.00 to over $15,000.00.

In the mid range of cost is membership software from Amember. This software is around $300 and you must host the software on your own server. I use this software for one of my membership sites and I am fairly happy with it. Problem here is it fairly costly for a beginner and in my opinion the membership software is rather clunky and NOT intuitive. That is, the learning curve for using it is fairly steep especially if you are not technically inclined.

How To Keep Your Business Blog Going Through The Holiday Bustle

So, you started and kept up with your business blog; people seem to enjoy it, you’re building traffic, comments and even getting more sign ups on your newsletter. It has taken a lot of work to make this successful. Now you have a problem. The holidays are upon us. If you sell consumer products you’re probably so busy now you have little time for long term marketing. But, you also know that you want to keep this great thing going. Besides, it’s the long term marketing that will help you over the slower periods of the year. What can you do?

Try pre-scheduling your posts. This is the single most effective method. It can also save you time throughout the rest of the year when you get busy or need a break. You can do this by using your blog’s scheduled post feature or you could blog by email and set your email client to only send the mail at a pre-set date and time. If you’re using Outlook, there are plugins you can purchase to help you send scheduled emails.

Something else you could do is invite some guest bloggers. You can hire someone. Many times people are more than happy to blog on sites for an affordable fee. You could also invite owners of related businesses to post. This is a great idea because you may not need to pay out any cash and you can return the favor when they get busy. Guest writers are a good way to get some time away from your blog, allow you to concentrate on holiday sales and a wonderful way to introduce a fresh perspective.

Here’s another idea. Have an assistant post some holiday articles related to your business for you. Articles about the holidays that people find useful such as shopping and budget tips, recipes and etiquette do very nicely. Everyone can use those ideas and tips to make their holidays less expensive and more enjoyable. If your assistant can add information to relate those articles with your product, the better. With that holiday feel in the air, you may be surprised to see how much traffic you end up getting. Possibly more than normal.

If you’re posting tips, don’t post them all at once. Publish a series of small and quick tips over a number of days or weeks. Tell people they are reading just one in a series every time you post. Not only does this keep the blog alive, it gives your readers reason to return.

Try audio. Speaking comes more naturally to us than writing and it also requires less effort and time to make a post. Record a short under 5 minute clip about what’s happening during the busy holiday period. Tell people about your sales, share how you helped a customer out of his holiday shopping dilemma. There are many tools you can use for a small cost such as AudioAcrobat and HipCast. You can record it and have it posted to your blog immediately.

Just because it is a busy period, doesn’t mean that you need to abandon your blog completely. By following the tips in this article, you can ensure your blog keeps building that valuable relationship with your prospects.
